U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has raised concerns about the excessive spending habits of both parties in Washington, particularly in relation to a $1.2 trillion spending bill set to pass. Dr. Paul's motion aims to address this issue by proposing a 5 percent cut from the bill, exempting funds for defense and border security.

During his Senate floor speech, Dr. Paul highlighted the alarming rate at which the national debt is increasing, stating, "We are spending at such a rate that we add an average of a trillion dollars to the debt every 90 days." He emphasized that the real threat to the nation lies within Congress's willingness to overlook the spending problem, which could lead to economic decline.

He clarified, "We wouldn't eliminate anything but anything that you're going to spend money on, is going to get 5 percent less."
