Dr Paul: The Federal Government Should Not Be Held Hostage for Ukraine Funding

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has made it clear that he will not consent to the expedited passage of any spending measure providing more American aid to Ukraine. In an op-ed for The American Conservative, Dr. Paul argues against allocating additional funds to Ukraine, citing the country's ongoing war and America's mounting deficit.

Speaking on the Senate floor earlier today, Dr. Paul stated, "Today I am putting leadership of the House, the Senate, and the President of the United States on notice. I will not consent to the expedited passage of any spending measure providing more American aid to Ukraine."

Dr. Paul highlights the concerning financial situation of the United States, with a projected deficit of over $1.5 trillion this year. He questions the wisdom of borrowing money from China to send to Ukraine and emphasizes that the American taxpayer has already provided $113 billion to Kiev since the beginning of Russia's war in Ukraine.

With Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky currently in Washington, D.C. to lobby Congress for approval of the Biden administration's $24 billion supplemental aid request, Dr. Paul raises important questions about the ongoing conflict and the lack of a clear strategy or objective from the Biden administration.

Furthermore, Dr. Paul warns about the risk of miscalculation or purposeful escalation that could draw the United States into direct conflict with Russia. He also highlights the issue of corruption in Ukraine and the potential misuse of American tax dollars.

Dr. Paul concludes by stating, "No matter how sympathetic we are to the Ukrainian people, my oath of office requires me to put the American people first. I encourage my colleagues to oppose any effort to hold the federal government hostage for Ukraine funding."
