Congressman Brett Guthrie of Kentucky issued a statement in response to Senator Mitch McConnell's announcement that he will not seek re-election next year. Guthrie expressed his admiration for McConnell's service and leadership.

“It has been an honor to serve with Leader McConnell representing the Commonwealth of Kentucky," stated Guthrie. He emphasized McConnell's significant impact on both American and Kentucky politics, noting, "Leader McConnell is one of the most consequential figures in American and Kentucky political history, and his conservative legacy will last for decades."

Guthrie praised McConnell's role as Senate Republican Leader, describing it as "unmatched" and highlighting his efforts in promoting Republican values within Kentucky. He further remarked on McConnell's influence in national discussions, saying, "He has brought our Kentucky values to the table for the most important discussions and biggest issues facing our nation."

Expressing gratitude for McConnell's service, Guthrie concluded by looking forward to continued collaboration over the next two years: “I thank Leader McConnell for his service and I look forward to working with him for the next two years as we continue delivering for Kentucky communities across the Second District.”
