Guthrie Announces 2024 Congressional Art Competition Winners

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY - Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) revealed the triumphant artists of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition from Kentucky’s Second District at a reception held at the Elizabethtown Tourism and Convention Center on April 22. The event was attended by students, their families, and educators.

Meade County High School student Lavender Vessels claimed the top spot with her piece, “Captive to Technology,” securing a coveted spot for her artwork in the U.S. Capitol among other winning entries from congressional districts and territories across the country. Congressman Guthrie expressed his anticipation of seeing Vessels' creation showcased in the nation's capital and extended his gratitude to everyone involved in the competition.

Following Vessels, Liam McDonald from South Warren Middle School clinched second place with his artwork titled “Preparing for the Derby,” while Dakota Kirchner from Nelson County High School secured the third spot with “Rascal.” Ava Alford was crowned the winner of the “Facebook Favorite” category with her piece “Mountainous Farm,” which will be displayed in Rep. Guthrie’s Bowling Green office.

The competition also recognized several honorable mentions and winners from various schools in the region. The diverse range of artistic talent on display highlighted the creativity and skill of the young participants.

Overall, the 2024 Congressional Art Competition showcased the artistic prowess of students from Kentucky’s Second District and underscored the importance of fostering creativity and expression in the younger generation.
