Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie, Chairman-Elect of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, announced the senior staff members for the 119th Congress.
Joel Miller will assume the role of Chief Counsel. He will manage the policy and legislative strategy of the Committee and oversee its subcommittees. His responsibilities include coordinating policy and legislative work with Members, leadership, and the broader Republican Conference to advance the House Republican legislative agenda. Miller has previously served as a Senior Legal Advisor at FCC, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Legislative Director for Chairman Guthrie.
Jessica Donlon is appointed as General Counsel. She will advise on strategic and legal issues while leading oversight and investigative priorities. Donlon's background includes serving as Deputy Staff Director of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee and Deputy General Counsel for Oversight at the Office of Management and Budget within the Executive Office of the President.
Chris Sarley takes on the role of Senior Advisor and Director of Member Services and Stakeholder Engagement. His focus will be enhancing communication among Committee Members, external stakeholders, and fostering collaboration within the broader Republican Conference. Sarley returns to this position after working with Cornerstone Government Affairs since 2017.
Matt VanHyfte becomes Director of Communications. He will develop strategic messaging campaigns to promote policy initiatives alongside House Leadership, focusing on amplifying legislative agendas. VanHyfte has prior experience in similar roles with President Donald J. Trump’s 2020 Re-Election Campaign.
The senior staff team will operate under Staff Director Megan Jackson's direction along with Deputy Staff Director Sophie Khanahmadi.
