U.S. Senator Rand Paul, representing Kentucky and serving as the Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, has unveiled his 2024 "Festivus" Report on government waste. The report identifies $1,008,313,329,626.12 in what Dr. Paul considers unnecessary spending by the federal government.
This release marks the tenth edition of the Festivus Report. Dr. Paul aims to inform American citizens about how their tax dollars are being spent by the federal government.
The report highlights several expenditures deemed wasteful by Dr. Paul. These include funding from the National Endowment for the Arts for ice-skating drag queens and city park circuses. The Department of the Interior invested $12 million in a new Las Vegas Pickleball complex and allocated $720,479 for wetland conservation projects aimed at ducks in Mexico.
The Department of State is mentioned eleven times in this year's report with various expenditures such as $4.8 million on Ukrainian influencers, $32,596 on breakdancing activities, $2.1 million for Paraguayan Border Security initiatives, and $3 million for 'Girl-Centered Climate Action' programs in Brazil.
