WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), Chairman of the Health Subcommittee of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, released a statement regarding the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) recent report projecting expenditures for 2023-2032.

“The recent report from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) reaffirms how critical it is for Congress to address the rising health care costs seniors and patients across the country are facing. The reality is we cannot address our national debt until we get health care spending under control. This report shows that health care spending will outpace GDP growth over the next ten years, meaning we will be spending MORE than our country will make on health care. This will increase health care costs from 17% to nearly 20% of GDP by 2032. These rising costs will hurt the American people and further hurt Congress’ ability to balance our budget and provide essential health care services to vulnerable Americans, especially those depending on Medicare and Medicaid. We must regain control of our health care spending and work to lower health care costs while increasing transparency and access to high quality care for patients across the nation,” said Congressman Guthrie.
