U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has joined a bipartisan coalition of Senators in introducing a resolution to designate the week of May 12 through 18, 2024, as National Police Week. The resolution is intended to honor the 226 law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty during 2023.
“The selflessness and courage of our police officers from Kentucky and across the country inspires us to work toward a safer and more just society,” said Dr. Paul. “National Police Week provides an opportunity to honor their hard work and remember the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. It serves as a solemn reminder of the risks officers face daily and the courage they exhibit while safeguarding our communities.“
The resolution designates "National Police Week" for May 12 through May 18, 2024, expresses unwavering support for law enforcement officers across the United States in preserving safe and secure communities, recognizes the need for ensuring that law enforcement officers have necessary equipment, training, and resources to protect both themselves and the public, acknowledges that police officers and other law enforcement personnel should be remembered and honored especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, expresses condolences and solemn appreciation to loved ones of each law enforcement officer who has made this ultimate sacrifice in line of duty, encourages U.S citizens to observe National Police Week by honoring law enforcement personnel and promoting awareness of their essential mission in service to their communities and the United States.
