WASHINGTON, DC – This morning, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) congratulated Barren County High School students Carlie Sanders, Sara Thorpe, and Leah Somerville who won first place in the KY-02 Congressional App Challenge. The students presented their app “ACHE” to Congressman Guthrie and others at the Congressional App Challenge’s House of Code Science Fair held at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.
In response to meeting with the students, their parents, and teachers, Congressman Guthrie expressed his admiration, stating, "Congratulations to our Second District App challenge winners on their incredible app ACHE." He further praised the students, saying, "These tremendous Barren County students, Carlie Sanders, Sara Thorpe, and Leah Somerville did a fantastic job proudly representing our district at the Congressional App Challenge’s House of Code fair at the United States Capitol, where they presented their app not only to me but to the scientific community from across the nation."
Highlighting the significance of the event, Congressman Guthrie remarked, "This is the most prestigious demo day for STEM students across the nation and I am so proud to have our Barren County students here today." Looking ahead, he expressed his anticipation for the students' future endeavors in the field of STEM, especially in championing women in the industry, saying, "I look forward to seeing their next steps representing women in STEM not just in Kentucky but for young leaders across our nation as they present their app once again at the national computer science fair."
