WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has unveiled the lineup for the 2024 March Earmark Madness Tournament, featuring 16 earmarks from the $1.2 trillion spending bill under consideration by Congress. The tournament, dubbed the "Shameful 16," highlights extravagant uses of taxpayers' money for individual Senators' pet projects.

Among the earmarks are allocations such as "$2M to the University of Maine for the construction of a kelp and shellfish nursery" and "$1.7M for wind energy workforce education and training in New York." These earmarks have come under scrutiny for their perceived lack of fiscal responsibility.

The tournament will feature single elimination rounds, with voting set to take place on Friday, March 22, via Dr. Paul's X account starting at 9 a.m. ET. Interested individuals can follow and participate in the voting process by following @SenRandPaul on social media.

Dr. Paul's initiative aims to bring attention to what he considers wasteful spending and to engage the public in the decision-making process regarding government expenditures. The detailed bracket for the 2024 March Earmark Madness Tournament will guide the progression of the competition among the selected earmarks.

The announcement of the tournament and its participants was made on Senator Rand Paul's official website, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in government spending. The event is poised to spark discussions on the prudent use of taxpayer dollars and the necessity for responsible budgeting practices.
