U.S. Senator Rand Paul, along with Senators Rick Scott, Ron Johnson, and Roger Marshall, have sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, demanding the immediate rescinding of the appointments of James Clapper, John Brennan, and Paul Kolbe to the newly formed Homeland Intelligence Experts Group. The senators have also requested answers on how these appointments were made.

In the letter, the senators express their concern about the decision to assign individuals known for spreading disinformation to a committee aimed at advancing intelligence and national security efforts. The senators specifically point out that these appointees asserted, without evidence, that the abandoned laptop of Joe Biden's son and the incriminating information it contained were "Russian disinformation."

The letter states, "These individuals are known purveyors of disinformation who asserted, without evidence, that the abandoned laptop of Joe Biden’s son and the voluminous records of incriminating information it contained were 'Russian disinformation.'"

The senators accuse Clapper, Brennan, and Kolbe of acting at the direction of and in coordination with the political campaign of Joe Biden to discredit the legitimacy of the discovery of Hunter Biden's laptop. They argue that this false statement was intended to prevent the American public from discovering the truth about the laptop's contents. The senators further criticize the lack of contrition shown by Clapper, Brennan, and Kolbe for their actions.

The letter also brings attention to Clapper's history of lying under oath to hide the National Security Agency's spying operations on millions of Americans. Despite proof of Clapper's perjury coming to light, he has been appointed to serve on the Homeland Intelligence Experts Group.

In addition to demanding the rescinding of the appointments, the senators request various documents and information related to the establishment and selection process of the Homeland Intelligence Experts Group. They also ask about the compensation and access to classified information for the members of the group.

The senators conclude the letter by stating their intention to urge Chairman Gary Peters to demand Secretary Mayorkas' appearance before the Committee in a hearing to explain the appointments despite the appointees' disreputable records.
