U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) and Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) have taken the lead in demanding that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas rescind the appointments of James Clapper, John Brennan, and Paul Kolbe to the newly formed Homeland Intelligence Experts Group. These appointments have raised concerns due to the individuals' history of spreading disinformation.

In a letter addressed to Secretary Mayorkas, the senators expressed their disappointment and concern over the decision to assign individuals known for spreading lies and disinformation to a committee intended to advance intelligence and national security efforts. The senators accused the appointed individuals of acting at the direction of then-candidate Joe Biden's political campaign to assert, without evidence, that the abandoned laptop of Joe Biden's son and its incriminating contents were "Russian disinformation."

The senators emphasized the seriousness of this false statement, stating that it was intended to discredit the discovery of Hunter Biden's laptop and divert attention from the criminality and corruption surrounding it. They argued that Clapper, Brennan, and Kolbe had shown no remorse for their actions and had even defended their letter despite the authentication of the laptop and its contents.

The senators further highlighted James Clapper's history of lying under oath to the United States Senate in 2013 to hide the National Security Agency's spying operations on Americans. They expressed concern that Clapper, rather than facing accountability for his perjury, had been appointed to the Homeland Intelligence Experts Group.

Regarding the appointments, the senators demanded that the DHS immediately rescind them. They also requested transparency regarding the selection process and the criteria used to choose the members of the newly formed Homeland Intelligence Experts Group. Additionally, they sought information on the compensation packages, access to classified information, and the specific challenges and threats the group is tasked to address.

The senators concluded their letter by urging Chairman Gary Peters to request Secretary Mayorkas' appearance before the Committee to explain the appointments despite the individuals' disreputable records.

It remains to be seen how Secretary Mayorkas will respond to this demand and whether the appointments will be rescinded as requested by Senators Rand Paul and Rick Scott.
