WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) delivered a speech on the Senate floor today, announcing his opposition to any expedited passage of a spending bill that provides additional American aid to Ukraine. Dr. Paul emphasized that the United States cannot afford to allocate more funds to Ukraine while facing a staggering deficit of over $1.5 trillion this year.

Speaking to the leadership of the House, Senate, and the President, Dr. Paul declared, "I will not consent to any expedited passage of any spending bill that provides any more American aid to Ukraine. It's as if no one has noticed that we have no extra money to send to Ukraine."

Dr. Paul further highlighted the potential risks of escalating the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, stating, "The longer this conflict continues, the greater the risk that miscalculation or purposeful escalation draws the United States into direct conflict with Russia." He emphasized the need for a foreign policy that prioritizes the security and prosperity of the United States.

Addressing the economic implications, Dr. Paul cautioned against jeopardizing the U.S. economy by prioritizing the needs of other countries over its own. "We cannot save Ukraine by dooming the U.S. economy, and we certainly cannot save Ukraine by fighting a war with Russia," he said. He urged his colleagues to oppose any effort to hold the federal government hostage for Ukraine funding.

In addition to his floor remarks, Dr. Paul penned an op-ed in The American Conservative, further elaborating on his opposition to Ukraine funding. He argued that the United States must prioritize the American people and reduce its debt, as excessive spending weakens national security.
