WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement after voting for H.R. 3746, the Fiscal Responsibility Act.

“The Fiscal Responsibility Act rejects President Biden’s calls for trillions of dollars in new taxes and for a debt limit increase without any reforms to the reckless government spending under his administration. Deficits will be reduced by more than $2 trillion, resulting in a new record in deficit reduction by Congress. This legislation not only claws back nearly $30 billion in unspent and unobligated COVID-19 funds and rescinds money to hire new IRS agents, but it also includes reforms that will help unleash American energy production and reforms to work requirements that will help lift Americans out of poverty. A default on U.S. debt is being prevented in a divided government, which means this deal is not perfect. Our country will move forward more responsibly on spending thanks to the Republican wins that are in this deal,” said Guthrie.
