Senator Rand Paul, a Republican representing Kentucky in the U.S. Senate, recently used his social media platform to criticize the Federal Reserve and comment on political controversies related to past election investigations.
On July 31, 2025, Senator Paul posted a statement expressing concerns about the Federal Reserve’s influence over monetary policy. He wrote, “The Fed is drunk on power and secrecy. Markets, not bureaucrats, should set interest rates. This isn’t limited government, it’s central planning.”
Later that same day, Paul referenced a speaking engagement at a libertarian think tank by stating, “I had a pleasure speaking at the @CatoInstitute.” The Cato Institute is known for its advocacy of free markets and limited government intervention.
On August 1, 2025, Senator Paul commented on newly released information from an investigation into the 2016 U.S. presidential election. He stated: “Declassified document from Durham Investigation reveals Hillary Clinton approved ‘the idea about Trump and Russian hackers hampering US elections. That should distract people from her own missing email . . .’ Despicable. Someone should go to jail for this.”
The Durham Investigation refers to an inquiry led by Special Counsel John Durham into the origins of FBI investigations surrounding Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible connections to Donald Trump’s campaign. In previous years, declassified documents have sparked debate over political tactics during that period.
Senator Paul has frequently voiced skepticism toward centralized federal authority in both economic policy and intelligence matters.
