Rep. Brett Guthrie, a U.S. Congressman representing Kentucky’s 2nd district since 2009, recently addressed several issues on his social media account, including energy policy, support for law enforcement, and the passing of a former colleague.
On April 16, 2026, Guthrie highlighted an ongoing hearing in Congress by stating, “Today, @HouseCommerce is holding a hearing with @SecretaryWright to discuss how we can continue working to ensure Americans have access to reliable and affordable energy. We must continue to build on our work to utilize our abundant energy resources to lower costs for American”.
The following day, Guthrie discussed support for law enforcement officers’ overtime pay: “Law enforcement officers across the nation often work overtime to protect our communities. This week, I spoke to members of the Elizabethtown Police Department about how the Working Families Tax Cuts’ elimination of taxes on overtime supports the men and women who wear the” (April 17, 2026).
Later that same day, he expressed condolences over the death of a former congressional colleague: “I was saddened to learn that my former @HouseCommerce colleague, David McKinley, passed away earlier today. Congressman McKinley was a tireless advocate for the people of West Virginia and will be deeply missed. Please join Beth and I in praying for his family and loved ones.”
Brett Guthrie has served in Congress since replacing Ron Lewis in 2009 after previously serving in the Kentucky Senate from 2000 to 2008. Born in Florence, Alabama in 1964 and currently residing in Bowling Green at age 59, Guthrie continues his legislative work focusing on issues such as energy affordability and community safety.
