Senator Rand Paul, chair of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, has used his social media platform to voice strong opinions on welfare policies, rent control, and government fraud. Paul, who is also a physician specializing in ophthalmology and founder of the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic, posted a series of tweets between May 31 and June 1, 2026.
On May 31, Paul wrote: “My End Welfare for Non-Citizens Act supports American citizens instead of rewarding those who came to the U.S. illegally. This is common sense, and it is long overdue.”
The following day, he commented on housing regulations by stating: “Is this Venezuela or New York City? Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference. Rent controls are nothing short of theft. Nine years of a squatter paying no rent is outrageous.” (June 1, 2026).
Later that same day, Paul addressed concerns about government oversight in certain states: “Rather than cracking down on fraud and stopping government waste, far-left states like California are siding with fraudsters over hardworking taxpayers. This protects corruption instead of the public.” (June 1, 2026).
According to his official website, Paul performs pro-bono eye surgeries for patients in Kentucky and during international medical missions (source). He earned his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine and assists Kentucky residents with federal agency matters (source). His background as both a legislator and healthcare provider informs his public statements on policy issues.
