Lady Toppers finish day one at Daniel Island Invitational; Hackett tied for lead

The Western Kentucky University women’s golf team completed the first day of play at the Daniel Island Invitational in South Carolina on Monday. The Lady Toppers finished with a total score of 603 (+27) after two rounds, placing them 13th going into the final round.

Sydney Hackett led the team by shooting a 70 (-2) in both rounds, ending the day at four under par (140). She is tied for first place with Anna Howerton from High Point and holds a one-stroke lead over Marie Madsen, who is ranked No. 13.

Leah Edwards recorded scores of 77 (+5) and 76 (+4), totaling 153 (+9) and tying for 50th place. Kaylee Dwyer shot an 80 (+8) in her first round and improved to a 75 (+3) in the second, finishing with a total of 155 (+11), which puts her in a tie for 57th place.

Grace Frei started with an 82 (+10) but recovered in the second round with a 74 (+2), bringing her total to 156 (+12) and tying for 63rd. Reagan Ramage posted an opening round of 81 (+9), followed by a second-round score of 78 (+6), totaling 159 (+15) for a tie at 75th place.

“Really proud of how Sydney played today,” said head coach Adam Gary. “She was patient and disciplined in the wind. The team got off to a slow start but look forward to moving up the leaderboard tomorrow.”

The Lady Toppers will complete their participation in the tournament with the final round scheduled for Tuesday.
